INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY, & PASTORAL COUNSELING
In addition to providing a wide array of group therapy services, the staff at Knippenberg, Patterson, Langley & Associates also provides extensive individual and family therapy services. There are many times in a child's, adolescent's or adult's life when individual therapy can be beneficial. For all of us, extra support through the process of life and the normal developmental phases we all go through can be helpful. In particular, individual therapy can be helpful during times of adjustments such as divorce, grief recovery or trauma. For individuals who struggle with neurobehavioral disorders (ADHD, LD, Bipolar, etc.) individual treatment, which is psychosocial in nature, can be helpful in assisting an individual to come to grips with his or her unique challenges and regain a greater sense of self. We also provide drug and alcohol services on an individual basis. Overall, the majority of our individual services utilize a cognitive behavioral treatment approach in addressing an individual's needs.
At Knippenberg, Patterson, Langley & Associates we also realize that parenting and family dynamics can often be challenging and difficult issues to deal with. Our family therapy services include parenting assistance, martial therapy, and family dynamic focused therapy. These services allow for healing for the entire family structure, and in particular, are valuable when a family is dealing with neurobehavioral disorders. The unique stress of these disorders affects many relationships and dynamics over the course of a family's life. Marital therapy is crucial to handling the stresses related to raising an exceptional child.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic approach used in the treatment of PTSD and trauma. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation of the brain, such as tapping or eye movement, to help the brain reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories, so they are less upsetting. EMDR can be used in the treatment of: Post-traumatic stress, anxiety disorder, complicated grief, disturbing memories, stress reduction, and sexual and /or physical abuse. EMDR also helps to change and desensitize negative thoughts and to instill positive beliefs about one’s self. Scientific research has shown that EMDR is effective for post-traumatic stress and the results are long-lasting.Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is instructed by Rachel Moses, MA, LPC.
