As a physician specializing in child development and behavior, I will recommend this book for parents who wish to broaden their understanding of their child’s behavior and learn tools to support their social and emotional development.

In “Wired and Connected,” Mr. Knippenberg integrates the science of brain development with his diverse and compassionate experiences in counseling and education to produce a guide that empowers parents to help their children develop emotional regulation, improve social skills, and build self-awareness.  Complex concepts related to brain functioning and neuroscience research are carefully explained with language and analogies that are easy to understand and help parents to conceptualize their child’s development and behavior.  With an understanding that children come with all different temperaments and unique strengths and weaknesses, this book provides tools for parents to provide a behavioral and emotional environment supportive of their individual child, including specific ideas and exercises for parents to use with children.   The chapters are littered with interesting examples, thoughtful anecdotes, relevant research, as well as humor and compassion.  As a physician specializing in child development and behavior, I will recommend this book for parents who wish to broaden their understanding of their child’s behavior and learn tools to support their social and emotional development.
