Individual Therapy

There are many times in a child, adolescent or adult’s life when individual therapy can be beneficial. For individuals who struggle with neurobehavioral disorders (ADHD, LD, Bipolar, etc.) individual treatment can be helpful in assisting individuals to gain a greater understanding of themselves and also provide insight into their unique life challenges.

Individual therapy can provide support and teach coping skills to family members who have children who are experiencing such neurological disorders.   We also offer home-based therapy and post high school coaching/mentoring which provides extra support for families and individuals.   The associates at KPLA routinely see clients experiencing:

    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Anger Issues
    • Divorce
    • Grief
    • Trauma

Family/Marital Counseling

Parenting and family dynamics can be stressful and upset the family system causing unique challenges for everyone involved. For families who have children experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD,  Learning Disabilities, Mood Disorders, Depression, and Anxiety, this can be especially true.  Families also seek support during times of divorce, trauma, and grief.

At KPLA, our family therapy services include parent coaching, marital therapy, and family therapy. Family Counseling allows for healing for the entire family structure.

Educational Support

Creating a partnership with your child’s school is a great way to support your child’s learning. From the interpretation of psycho-educational testing to the implementation of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, KPLA professionals can assist you with this important home/school communication. Connecting the student, family, and school can help with the use of accommodations at home and at school. Though many school consultations occur organically as part of family or individual therapy with a child, KPLA is also available for consultation as a unique service.   To learn more about Educational Support, please click here.

Post High School Coaching

Post high school coaching and support is for young adults needing structural guidance and emotional support to become engaged in their own process for the future and to be motivated towards a successful adult life. During this coaching and support, Mike Villarreal, MA, LPC, works with clients to set goals while also identifying social, emotional and/or cognitive obstacles keeping clients from achieving success. This specialized coaching/counseling is specifically for the young adult who struggles to launch themselves or move positively towards adult independence.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic approach used in the treatment of PTSD and trauma.  EMDR uses bilateral stimulation of the brain, such as tapping or eye movement, to help the brain reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories, so they are less upsetting. EMDR can be used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress, anxiety disorder, complicated grief, disturbing memories, stress reduction, and sexual and /or physical abuse. EMDR also helps to change and desensitize negative thoughts and to instill positive beliefs about one’s self. Scientific research has shown that EMDR is effective for post-traumatic stress and the results are long-lasting.
